It is time for another installment of “10 on 10”- Ten images posted on the 10th of each month with a group of lovely photographers from my blog circle. It is slightly shocking to me that the last time I touched this blog was to post out first installment of this circle, exactly one month ago. It has been a rather hectic month- I traveled to Atlanta to attend an incredible photography conference (a rehash on that to come soon!), I completed a four week Photoshop class with the brilliant ladies over at Clickin Moms, and I photographed several new families! It was an exciting month, but I am hoping February brings calm and quiet and a chance to share more with you all here. In the meantime, this month’s theme for our circle: a day in the life. Ten photographs captured in one day summing up what each of our lives look like. To be honest, my days are very different depending on which day of the week it is- the days in which I go into work at my office look completely different from the day that I am home with my son. In determining which I thought would be more interesting to photograph (and which would leave me less insane and frazzled), I chose to photograph a day in the latter. I realized it was highly unlikely I would be able to get myself ready for work, my son ready for school, and out the door on time while attempting to photograph it all. The camera would likely not survive my frustrations. So here we go, a slightly calmer version of our days- *** Friday morning. My husband has been away on business for the previous week and my son has been up for the majority of the night. The first cup of coffee cannot come soon enough. All is quiet at this moment.
My sweet, sweet boy- who is now finally sleeping (because why sleep at 4am when you can sleep at 7am?) Just before I wake him for school. A stumbly, groggy walk to the bathroom. On some lucky mornings, breakfast is actually a peaceful event. Then it’s off to school, on a Chicago winter morning.
After driving him to school, I return home to edit a client session. A second mug (vat?) of coffee is poured and I choose my playlist on iTunes to listen to while I work (Bon Iver has been in heavy rotation for my editing sessions lately.) After school, my little guy begins his daily ritual of building an epic infrastructure that will take over our entire living room. And at some point in the day, this sweet guy would like it very much if someone took him for a walk. An evening of rocking out, with our friends Mumford & Sons on the tv. (I think my baby has potential.) And finally, the ultimate goal of each day… tiring him out and hoping (always hoping) for a night of blissful, uninterrupted sleep. *** Now that you have seen a day in my life, please continue on and head over to Winchester, England, to see what a day is like in the life of talented photographer Jenny Owens! |
[…] And before you go, please be sure to visit the blog of my talented friend Julia Tulley and the rest of the photographers in this small but growing blog […]
Julia, these are great. I get that each day can be very different from each other, but your series of photos above are so well thought out, with each image really telling a story – I very much enjoyed looking at them.
Julia I love seeing this kind of photography from you! Love the glimpse of daily life, and when will our boys sleep at night like normal people?!
Julia, I cannot get over how gorgeous and crisp your photos always are. A beautiful collection of photos from a calm but busy day. Coffee, snow and guitar hero? My kinda day. 🙂
Absolutely beautiful images, I love the walking to the bathroom and standing in the snow shots especially!
Julia-
From one mom to another, thank you for sharing such honest, beautiful photos of the difficult and sweet moments children bring to us.
As a real estate fanatic, I’m so curious to know where in Chicago you and Chris live. The romantic side of me envisions walks to the lake and coffee, run-ins with indi books stores and all travel via train. (Yes, I know you don’t live in Europe, but still. . . .)
Have a wonderful day!
Rosanna
