Welcome to May’s installment of “10 on 10!” If you are just joining us for the first time, “10 on 10” is a blog circle made up of several very talented photographers from different parts of the world. Each month we choose a new theme to photograph, following our own interpretation of that theme, and we blog 10 of these images on the 10th of each month. Please stick around after you have read my post, and take a look at the other wonderful posts as well. *** The presence of a child… As anyone with children know, they do not need to be physically nearby to make their presence know. Whether it is toys or clothes strewn about, sticky hand prints on a door, or artwork taped to the wall, they effortlessly leave their mark everywhere. All of us in this group are mothers, and this month we choose to photograph the presence of children, without actually photographing any children. This theme was inspired by photographer Ketti Phillips and her project “The Kids Were Here“- I have not yet looked at these photographs, as I did not want it to influence my own interpretation of this theme, but I am grateful to this original photographer, and all those that have joined in on this project, for the source of this inspiration!
My son is four (sigh, yes he turned four just a few short weeks ago) and I still maintain that he is one of the tidiest children I know… he always has been. (For the most part) he likes to put things away, he likes to organize his toys, and because his parents are both a little neurotic as well, he is generally not often sticky. So while his presence may look a little different that what I imagine that of other’s might look like, it is definitely still seen and felt in every nook of our home. It’s often these little details that I will come across after he has gone to bed for the evening, that make me smile and make me want to run into his room and hug him. I will begin this post with how we often begin our mornings. Kiddo loves lining up his cars across the room… certainly an injury waiting to happen for his often-tired parents. Amazingly, no one has broken anything just yet. |
He also thinks it’s hilarious to place toys and sometimes boxes as close to the dog as possible while he try to nap. Sweet pup does not see the humor, but takes it in stride. |
And some of the other little things I stumble across… |
Thanks for reading! Now please continue on over to Brooklyn, New York, to see how one of my personal favorite’s, the awesome Kelly Patton, interprets this theme! |

Love the dog and the dinosaur!
You never fail to impress, Julia! I can see that your little guy does have a particular way – look at that half-eaten apple!
