7 on 7: the 1970’s big wheels

As summer continues, kiddo and I have been enjoying frequent overnight trips to grandma’s.  It is such a nice change of scenery and this city kid can’t get enough of the big yard, wide open space, and general outdoor life.

He also recently discovered an old treasure.  For some reason, also unknown to my mom, she saved this old Big Wheels of mine; a faded pink and yellow three-wheeler with Powder Puff decals and a cracked front wheel.  And even though he has a “big kid” two wheel bike at home, he thinks this little thing is the coolest.   Riding around in small circles on the patio for hours is pure joy, although what he seems to love most is riding it down the grassy hill and then slowly, loudly dragging it back up to the top.

For the record, I should mention that, after watching him ride around on this sad broken plastic wheel, grandma of course ran out and bought him a fancy new (and significantly larger) Cars-themed Big Wheels.  Two painful hours, two adults with multiple professional-looking tools, and a few are you kidding me’s?! later, the new plastic Cars-themed Big Wheels was assembled.  He tested it out and after about four minutes promptly decided that the pink and yellow Powder Puff Big Wheels with the cracked front wheel was far superior.
