fog and clarity

The more I photograph others, the less I find myself photographing my original source of inspiration.  So as the new year approaches, I am making an attempt to get back to my roots, so to speak, and to again find moments to capture this little guy as his grows.  We woke up a few weeks ago, early one Saturday morning, to see a thick blanket of fog outside our window.  Before it could disappear, I grabbed my camera, shoved my kiddo into some clothes, and ran off to a park down the street.  You can normally see the Sears Tower (yes, Sears Tower) from where we stood in this first shot (well, I stood- he ran.)  But on this day it was just a peaceful sea of white.  A completely different view from what we are used to and one that I had never seen before.  It was a quiet and lovely morning that reminded me of exactly why I fell in love with photography in the first place…  life can be so busy and hectic and loud and every so often we are graced with these quiet moments, still moments, very precious moments that might only last a heartbeat… or when we are lucky enough to capture them through our images, these moments will last a lifetime.

Julia, these are wonderful. I agree with your sentiments. My two children are going to be giant people too soon. Savor (almost!) every moment. I am hoping to do more digital video recording of my kids this year, their sweet little voices are fleeting, too.

Julia these are simply amazing! I’ve been dying to shoot in the fog but it’s going to need to be a morning where all the stars align. I’d love to have some of these with my children.
